Steps to Gateway Placement
Steps to Gateway Placement
There are several steps to a Gateway placement.
Firstly the school contacts FITEC Wood Careers for assistance.
FITEC Wood Careers staff will then put you in contact with a Wood Manufacturing FITEC Regional Training Advisor (RTA). These people administer the Industry apprentices and trainees within different regions of New Zealand. You will be put in contact with the RTA relevant to your region.
The RTA will identify an employer in your region that is willing to take on a Gateway student, and an assessor suitable for monitoring student progress (if the school does not already have one).
Once the placement has been confirmed, the RTA will arrange for a meeting between the school Gateway Co-ordinator, the student, the employer and the assessor. The purpose of this meeting is to:
- Ensure all parties understand the training arrangements of the Gateway programme.
- Sign the Placement Agreement.
- Develop a student training plan.
- Agree on the student’s assessment process.
- Ensure the student and employer receive all necessary training and assessment resources available.
Once this meeting has been completed the signed Placement Agreement is returned to the FITEC RTA.
The Assessor/RTA will offer assistance and maintain contact with the school and employer for the duration of the student’s placement.
- There may be workplace assessment costs associated with Gateway student placements. These costs are borne by the school.
